Ali bin Hasan was born in Misrata, Libya in 1876 and fought against the Italian occupation in al-Hani, Gasr Ahmed, al-Gardhabiya, and other battles. While immigrating to Tunisia, he was arrested and imprisoned by the Italians in Zwara. He escaped from prison and joined fellow immigrants in Mudhlila, Tunisia. He later setteled in Suhaib, where he received the poem Lee 'Ayn, from his friend Ali Glaisa who had immigrated from Misrata to Egypt. Ali bin Hasan died in Misrata in 1953.

Mr. bin Hasan was known for his nationalistic poetry and for many exchanges with other poets, including abu Zaytuna al-Hammali and bin Rwaila al-Ma'dani.
